Ten Wins for L.A. Brewers at 2023 Great American Beer Festival

Eight brewery members of the Los Angeles County Brewers Guild will be bringing home medals from the 2023 Great American Beer Festival in Colorado. Brewers flocked to Denver this week for the annual beer festival where the GABF Awards Ceremony was held. The L.A. County wins this year were spread amongst eight unique breweries including two double winners in Highland Park Brewery and Angel City Brewery.

Beachwood Brewing: Silver for Hoppa Emeritus / Style Category: American Black Ale or American Stout
Space Brewery: Gold for Sonrisa / Style Category: Common American-Style Lager
Angel City Brewery: Bronze for Trois Années Cuvée / Style Category: Belgian-Style Sour Ale
Angel City Brewery: Silver for Apple Pomace Puncheon / Style Category: Experimental Beer
HiDef Brewing Co.: Bronze for Spring Reverb / Style Category: Fruited Wood- and Barrel-Aged Sour Beer
Claremont Craft Ales: Gold for Triple IPA / Style Category: Imperial India Pale Ale
Highland Park Brewery: Gold for Hand of Josh / Style Category: International-Style Pale Ale
Highland Park Brewery: Gold for DDH Pillow / Style Category: Juicy or Hazy Imperial India Pale Ale
Firestone Walker Brewing Co. – The Propagator: Bronze for Extra Pale Ale / Style Category: International-Style Pale Ale
HopSaint Brewing Co.: Bronze for Random Acts of Greatness / Style Category: Other Strong Beer

More about this year’s GABF competition:

The Brewers Association awarded 303 medals to 263 breweries across the country during the 2023 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) awards ceremony. The best beers in 99 beer categories covering 175 different beer styles (including all subcategories) were awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals. The total number of beers entered into the competition was an impressive 9,298.

Five Wins for L.A. Brewers at 2021 Great American Beer Festival

Five brewery members of the Los Angeles County Brewers Guild will be bringing home medals from the 2021 Great American Beer Festival in Colorado. While the annual craft beer festival was canceled for a second time this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, brewers flocked to Denver this week for the annual Craft Brewers Conference where the GABF Awards Ceremony was held. The L.A. County wins this year were spread amongst five unique breweries including two silver medals for Beachwood Blendery and Highland Park Brewery and three bronze medals for All Season Brewing, Arts District Brewing Company, and Claremont Craft Ales.

  • All Season Brewing Co.: Bronze for Bullitts / Style Category: American-Style India Pale Ale
  • Arts District Brewing Co.: Bronze for Summer Crush / Style Category: Specialty Berliner-Style Weisse
  • Beachwood Blendery: Silver for Coolship Chaos Balaton Cherry / Style Category: Belgian Fruit Beer
  • Claremont Craft Ales: Bronze for Happy Days / Style Category: Strong Red Ale
  • Highland Park Brewery – Chinatown: Silver for Fill Pils / Style Category: Kellerbier or Zwickelbier

* A special note goes out to LABG newcomer All Season Brewing which opened in 2020 for their Bronze in the American IPA category which was the second largest category in the competition with a whipping 404 total entries! All Season Brewing is part of a family of local independent brewpubs which include fellow winner Arts District Brewing and Imperial Western Brewing located in the historic Union Station.  Congrats to the Pouring With Heart Hospitality Group!

More about this year’s GABF competition:

The Brewers Association awarded 290 medals to 265 breweries across the country during the 2021 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) awards ceremony in the largest competition to date.

The best beers in 97 beer categories covering 175 different beer styles (including all subcategories) were awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals during the 35th edition of the celebrated competition.

Judging took place in 34 sessions over 17 days with strict health and safety measures in place. A total of 170 judges evaluated 9,680 entries from 2,192 breweries from all 50 states plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. The awards ceremony was held at the Bellco Theatre in Denver on Friday evening during the Craft Brewers Conference® and was livestreamed on The Brewing Network.
