Our Magic School Bus series is always a fan favorite, and this time around, we took our special recipe and combined it with fruited strawberry and kiwi. This batch is brewed without milk sugar and is a delicious fruited kettle sour with strawberry and kiwi purée giving it a kiwi forward flavor with a sweet strawberry finish! Stop by tomorrow at 4 pm for your chance at a first taste!

Los Angeles is known for a lack of changing seasons, but it's noticeably feeling a little more like Spring! 🌱☀️⁣

To compliment the blue skies and warm sun (with the exception of the deluge last Saturday), Aurantia is the perfect fair weather beer. ⁣
⁣
We took our Golden Sour bases and applied the traditional west coast dry-hopping method, using a bunch of Mosaic, Amarillo, and Mandarina Bavaria hops. ⁣
⁣
As Aurantia ages, many of those resinous aromas are transformed into over-ripe pineapple and mango, making this particular dry-hopped sour a good candidate for cellar aging.⁣

Rip City opened its doors in 1978 as skateboarding was beginning to gain popularity. Santa Monica and Venice (collectively “Dogtown”) would become the epicenter of skateboard culture during the ‘70s and ‘80s. The store has survived all the various incarnations of the sport to become LA’s oldest continuously operated skate shop.

“Since You Asked Kindly” - This saison was formed utilizing second use fruits and “pomace” from our blackberry saison, “Speaking Gently”, and our Sauvignon Blanc grape saison, “Colour Orange”. We chose a barrel aged blend of wild ale to combine with the leftover “berries and grapes” to forgo a small fermentation on any residuals that were left behind from each fruit. Our influence behind this saison is a wine technique called “Piquette”, which is a grape beverage produced by using left over grape pomace and adding water to create a simple wine or wine substitute. Instead of diluting our leftover pomace with water, we used our aged hop oak fermented wild ale, and conditioned it atop the pomace for 5 weeks. The result is absolutely stunning and beautiful. It provides a unique textural, layered experience, adding subtle tannins from each fruit. The complex fruit punch type aroma exhibits notes of glazed strawberries, juicy green table grapes, ripened blackberries, and Sauvignon Blanc wine. It carries a touch of rustic aged hops, complex yeast, and lively carbonation, which makes it absolutely perfect for spring and summer enjoyment! Cheers! -

It is with deep sadness in which we must inform you all that as of yesterday (2/4) State Brewing Co has closed.
-
The decision was made solely based on financial reasons. In short, we had pretty much maxed out capacity in our small unit and the financial investment to grow beyond and turn the corner (canning line, larger brewhouse, more staff etc.) just wasn't there. State was owned and financed by one person (Blake Shapiro), which, in an industry with a very large amount of financial overhead is not an easy feat.

We want to thank you all , from our amazing staff, to our faithful and loyal taproom customers / friends , our dedicated and passionate distribution account family, the City of Gardena and LA, our loving fellow brewey brothers and sisters, Our Craft Beer Media homies such as The Full Pint, Hopped LA , Beer Paper La, Hop Culture etc., our social media followers, The LA Brewers Guild and anyone and everyone whom has ever spent their hard earned dollar on a State pint or 4pk. We LOVE YOU ALL- You all are the sole reason we came as far as we did!

Our newest release, Eve, is now available online for you to purchase! Eve is our 2nd collaboration with our friends over @101cider . It’s composed of 2 rustic wild Saison barrels aged for 8 months in the Apple Brandy barrels that previously held Chapeau, our first collab with 101. These barrels always lend a very interesting flavor to the beer reminiscent of agricole rum, and they keep giving off lots of pak flavors even after holding 3 different beers. Instead of honey for bottle conditioning, we used fresh pressed apple cider must from 101 Cider. The juice from the apples is what ferments to create the carbonation in the bottle, similar to our other beers The Carrot King and Petalum. It’s a fun beer, and we’re excited to share it with you!
